Use a Shoe Bag to Create a Message Center!

We read the book Dear Mr. Blueberry to explore letter writing. Of course we wanted to write our own letters! So, I cut a shoe bag in half and attached it to a shelf with Velcro. Added some pictures of stamps, stampers, free envelopes and paper that were donated, and a few supplies for an easy space saving mail center! The kids love it!
3-D Shape Party

To help my kiddos remember the names of 3-D shapes we had a “Shapes Party!”
First we wrote a letter, as a group inviting a couple other classes to join us.
Dear-,
This Friday we are having a shapes party! Can your class come? We will make spheres with frozen yogurt! If you come, please bring cones, cylinders, or cubes.
Thank you,
Mrs. Brooks’ Class
The other classes replied, and brought 3-D foods. The students went through a line around the horseshoe table and got goodies as they told us the shape of the food. They had sooo much fun and really knew those shapes by the end. One little boy said “I don’t want any marshmallows.” I replied “I don’t have any marshmallows, only cylinders.” He then smiles really big and says “Oh, we’ll I want some cylinders then!” Too cute!
We listened and danced to math music, and really had a fabulous time!
Monday Motivation
January 7, 2013 at 12:44 pm | Posted in Classroom | Leave a commentAs you start the second semester of school, be the best teacher you can be. It doesn’t matter where your students are right now; what matters is how they finish out the year. So get in there, and give those little darlings all you’ve got for the rest of the time you have them. Make a difference in their lives. Give them a good solid foundation for the next grade. Give them love. Give them a joy for learning. Be the best teacher you can be EVERY DAY this semester! Oh! and PLEASE don’t forget to have fun! Happy Teaching.
